Change of career for Graeme

Graeme was referred to CEIS Ayrshire, as part of the Work Programme.

He had worked in Construction for 20+ years but had to leave due to a number of health issues, incl. Arthritis, Diabetes and HBP. He felt he was ‘past it’ and was unsure if he would ever find work again. Through our BLO team, we came across a local employer who was looking to take on staff. This local employer was a Dog Groomer, something that Graeme had never thought of.

We were able to set up a meeting between the employer and Graeme and from there we arranged a 4 week work placement. Following this placement, we carried out an In Work Benefit Calculation and found that although he would be £7/week ‘worse off’, he was willing to accept this. Graeme would initially be working 16hrs a week but this would rise as he was being allowed to build his own client base, which in turn would build his hours up to a Full Time level.

Graeme returned to the office after a month to see us. His health has improved and he could not thank us enough for the help and support we had given. He has gone on to study Dog Grooming and is due to commence a training course on the subject.

He is very much looking forward to his new career.
